Olynmpus XZ-1

The Olympus XZ-1 has been sitting on a shelf, for a long time.  It was time to ressurect it.  The lens at it’s widest setting is very decent, even seven or eight years on from it’s launch.    Mobile phones may replace the lower end of small cameras but as far as I’m concerned there is a place for a designated small format camera with all the PSAM controls.  What has worked against the small format camera is the high price in comparison to a mobile phone, and at lower end, cameras seemed to me to be sluggish.  A wifi or NFC capable small format camera with a decent lens is a nice companion to the modern smart phone.

The roads are fun at the moment. It’s like a day out at the funfair, and we’re all on the dodgems. But nobody really wants to smack into a big rig that has decided to jack knife. Oh, for the days of canal boats for heavy goods and, the rest of us – at least the lucky ones – on horse back.

It’s still a regular occurance to see the horse as pedestrian traffic in Ireland. I reckon, when all the oil is gone, the horse will have a renaissance. That’s if they aren’t eaten first.

I took a break from press work to cover a gig lead by Simeon Smith an old friend and leader of Masamba, they hit Dublin’s Templebar area evoking Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and his Uumpa Loompas. It was a fun gig and, for me the reactions on the faces of Dubliners after the gig was just priceless. Sparkle and smile…
